Program Philosophy: EPBBA, Inc. was created to provide boys who either live in Eden Prairie or attend Eden Prairie schools with an opportunity to compete and to develop their skills. The league is designed to be competitive as well as to give all participants an equal opportunity to play. To accomplish this, EPBBA, Inc. has instituted rules that require equal play. It is the coach’s responsibility to coach and to rotate the players. The coaches are volunteers and it is necessary for everyone to give them support, as the program could not function without them. The program is designed to be competitive and each game will have a score. NO INDIVIDUAL AWARDS SHALL BE AWARDED by coaches or parents.
Second Grade Program: The second grade program will be run in a similar fashion to the 1st Grade. During the first trimester the coaches will introduce and emphasize fundamental skill building. During the second trimester the coaches will encourage the players to use these skills in informal game situations. Finally, during the last trimester the player’s skills will be more formally tested in real game situations. This age group is not quite ready for 5 vs 5 on full length courts, however, the kids are all eager to compete and play. With this in mind, all scrimmages and games will be limited to 3 vs 3 on the cross courts and the coaches will play an active role refereeing, supervising, and demonstrating.
Note: This program is for second grade boys only! It is understood that some first grade boys may be of similar age and talent to many of the 2nd grade boys, however, there is a true shortage of gym space and coaches. Allowing one 1st grade boy (no matter what the circumstance) into the program would set a precedent that could interfere with a 2nd grade boy having his rightful basketball experience. Therefore, the EPBBA has a firm policy that will allow no first grade child, regardless of age, to be registered in the wrong grade. Boys found to be registered under false pretense will be removed from their team and refund requests will not be honored.
Volunteers: For the EPBBA to run a successful basketball program, we need volunteers to coach. We will provide a coaching manual to all coaches with practice outlines for each week. In addition, during the clinic's first two sessions the high school boys will demonstrate all of the drills needed throughout the season. Please indicate at least one volunteer job on the registration form.
